RouteFood is a non-profit initiative that would work alongside Canadian grocery stores to turn their soon-to-be-wasted food into nutritious, balanced, and free meals for those in need. Registered volunteers may collect the product from nearby vendors to create fresh, hearty batch meals. Then, these prepped meals will be delivered along a determined route, at designated stops, out of branded, easy-to-spot food trucks. The branding of these trucks will be vital for recruiting new volunteers, ensuring our vehicles can be seen by all those waiting for a delivery, and for them to stand out to those who may not yet know about us. Routefood aims to lessen the role of grocery stores in Canada’s food waste landscape, while at the same time providing nutritious meals for those unable to bear the financial burden of Canada’s rising food costs.
